An education loan for the USA pays for tuition, living costs, travel and insurance, within the lender's limits. For a student in Mumbai the questions are how much to borrow for the whole course, whether to offer collateral, and when the sanction must be ready for the F-1 Student Visa. DreamDestination works through all three with you at no charge and takes no commission from lenders. Approval is the lender's decision.
For a student in Mumbai heading to the USA, the loan and the admission are tied together earlier than in most countries: the university will not issue the I-20 until funding for the first year is shown. That makes the sanction letter part of the admission paperwork, not something to arrange afterwards.
Education loan for USA from Mumbai — the costs to plan for
Tuition in the USA is typically ₹25-80L/year, and living costs depend heavily on the city. Most universities also require health insurance. Many master's students offset part of the cost through teaching or research assistantships, but these are awarded by the university and cannot be counted on in advance.
The amount to borrow is the cost of the whole course less what you can pay yourself. Count every term's fees and every month's living expenses, plus insurance, flights and the visa. Subject to each lender's own caps, the loan can pay for:
Tuition and course fees paid to the university
Accommodation and reasonable living expenses
One-way airfare and travel costs
Student health and travel insurance
Books, equipment and a laptop where the course needs one
Exam, library and lab fees; refundable deposits within lender limits
Mumbai has no shortage of consultants, coaching centres and lender branches, so the difficulty here is rarely access — it is telling advice from a sales pitch. Our loan guidance is free and we earn nothing from any lender, so the recommendation does not depend on what you sign up for. Sessions run by video or phone, including evenings and weekends for working professionals.
This page is for students in Mumbai who hold, or expect, an offer from a university in the USA, and for the parents who will be co-applicants on the loan. Mumbai is also searched as Bombay. The same service is available to students in Baner, Chembur, Powai and Navi Mumbai, and across the rest of Maharashtra.
How an education loan is used as proof of funds for the USA
A US university issues the Form I-20 only after you show that the first year's tuition and living costs are covered. An education loan sanction letter from a recognised lender is commonly used for this, together with savings and any scholarship. The same evidence goes with you to the F-1 visa interview, where the officer may ask who is paying and how the loan will be repaid — so the figures on the I-20, on the sanction letter and in your answers have to agree.
First-year costs shown before the I-20 is issued

Assistantships and scholarships reduce the amount borrowed
There are two routes. With collateral the limit is higher and the decision rests partly on the security. Without it, the lender relies on the co-applicant and on its own view of the university and course, and caps the amount accordingly. For a family in Mumbai the choice follows from how much is needed.
We are an education consultancy, not a bank, NBFC or lending agent, and we take no commission from any lender. Approval, amount, interest rate and collateral requirements are always the lender's decision.
We could not verify a current Maharashtra-specific education loan or interest subsidy scheme for study abroad from a reliable public source, so we do not quote one. Central arrangements such as the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loans may still apply; ask your lender, and check with the Maharashtra higher education or social welfare department.
The loan follows the admission. If you have not yet settled on a university in the USA, the shortlist should be built with funding in mind: the same course at two universities can lead to very different amounts and very different answers from lenders.
