An education loan for abroad studies in Mumbai can come from a public sector bank, a private bank or an NBFC. It is either secured — backed by property or a fixed deposit — or unsecured, decided on the co-applicant's income and credit record. DreamDestination helps you work out the amount, choose the route and prepare the file, free of charge. We do not lend, and we take no commission from lenders.
Loan delays usually come from applying too early with half a file, or too late for the visa. For students in Mumbai the fix is the same: get the offer letter and cost breakdown first, settle who the co-applicant is, then apply once to a lender that actually funds your country and university.

Education Loan Options in Mumbai for Studying Abroad
Secured vs unsecured education loan in Mumbai
Lenders offer two broad routes. With collateral — a house, flat, plot or fixed deposit — the amount can be higher and the decision rests on the security as well as the student. Without collateral, the lender looks at the co-applicant's income and credit record and at how it rates the university and course, and caps the amount accordingly. For a family in Mumbai the choice comes down to how much is needed and what they are prepared to pledge.
We are an education consultancy, not a bank, NBFC or lending agent, and we take no commission from any lender. Approval, amount, interest rate and collateral requirements are always the lender's decision.
In Mumbai there are many consultants, test centres and lender branches to choose from, which makes the real question whose advice is independent. Our loan guidance costs nothing and we are paid nothing by any lender, so we have no reason to steer you. You can speak to a counsellor by video or phone, in the evening or at the weekend if you work.
Mumbai has one of the highest concentrations of bank branches and NBFC offices in India, so students here can usually meet lenders in person — but that also makes it tempting to apply to several at once. One well-prepared application to a well-matched lender works better.
This page is written for final-year students, recent graduates and working professionals in Mumbai, Maharashtra planning a master's or another course abroad, and for the parents helping them decide. Mumbai is also searched as Bombay. The same service is available to students in Bhiwandi, Andheri, Nashik and Kothrud, and across the rest of Maharashtra.
Subject to the lender's own caps, an education loan for overseas studies usually pays for:
Tuition and course fees paid to the university
Accommodation and reasonable living expenses
One-way airfare and travel costs
Student health and travel insurance
Books, equipment and a laptop where the course needs one
Exam, library and lab fees; refundable deposits within lender limits
Documents for an Education Loan in Mumbai
Collect these before you approach any lender. Missing or inconsistent documents are the commonest reason a loan file stalls.
Admission or offer letter with the full fee structure
Academic records — 10th, 12th and degree marksheets
English test / GRE / GMAT scorecards where required
KYC for student and co-applicant (ID, address, photographs)
Co-applicant income proof — salary slips or ITRs, and bank statements
Collateral documents, where a secured loan is being taken
A written breakdown of total cost and your own contribution
Passport, and visa documents once available
Maharashtra Education Loan Schemes
We could not verify a current Maharashtra-specific education loan or interest subsidy scheme for study abroad from a reliable public source, so we do not quote one. Central arrangements such as the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loans may still apply; ask your lender, and check with the Maharashtra higher education or social welfare department.
Being turned down by one lender does not mean every lender will say no. Get the reason in writing, deal with that particular weakness — the co-applicant, the security, the course or the paperwork — and then approach a lender whose criteria you meet.
